SCDMH’s Public Safety Division is a fully operational police department with statewide jurisdiction. It employs Class I Certified Officers and Security Officers, and also operates its own communication center, manned by dispatchers. The Division provides internal and external law enforcement and security for the Agency’s five inpatient facilities, and is also responsible for conducting investigations, participating in disaster response, transporting patients and clients, assisting employees, and supporting the Agency’s mental health centers. Public Safety operates under the direction of Chief Elizabeth Hall.

Public Safety employment vacancies are posted on the South Carolina Careers website www.careers.sc.gov. The Division provides guidance for all applicants and candidates to ease any concerns related to employment with  Public Safety.
