Three Receive State Director’s Award

Beckman Center for Mental Health Services Executive Director Melanie Gambrell, Division of Inpatient Services (DIS) Medical Director Kimberly Rudd, MD, and Director of Telehealth Services Stewart Cooner each received the State Director’s Award at a recent leadership assembly. State Director John H. Magill bestowed the awards in recognition of their outstanding work and significant contributions to the South Carolina Department of Mental Health (DMH) and the citizens it serves.

“Melanie Gambrell directs one of the most successful community mental health centers of DMH outpatient services. Through her efforts, the Beckman Center is a model in regards to working with the Center’s Board of Directors as well as local and state elected officials. Dr. Rudd not only serves as the DIS medical director and medical director of Long-term Care within DIS but also often fills in for other psychiatrists when we are short-handed. She does everything asked of her and more. Mr. Cooner, in addition to being the director of the highly respected and esteemed Telepsychiatry program, contributes extensively to the Agency’s strategic planning efforts,” said Magill.

Additionally, the award recipients were recognized, congratulated, and applauded by the SC Mental Health Commissioners and others in attendance during the July 6, 2018 Commission meeting.
