COVID-19 and DMH Inpatient Hospitals, 3/13/2020

The South Carolina Department of Mental Health (DMH) operates 3 inpatient hospitals:

  • Patrick B. Harris Psychiatric Hospital (Anderson)
  • Bryan Psychiatric Hospital/William S. Hall Children’s Hospital (Columbia)
  • Morris Village Alcohol & Drug Addiction Treatment Center (Columbia)

Following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC), and DMH’s Division of Inpatient Services’ COVID-19 Task Force, DMH is restricting visitation at all inpatient hospitals until further notice, effective Friday, March 13, 2020.

      • Exceptions will be handled on a case by case basis, and visitors must call in advance to discuss possible visitation:

      • To ensure patient safety, any exceptions, based on patient-specific circumstances, will require visitors to be screened for symptoms of illness, close contact with an individual who has tested positive for COVID-19, or who has traveled to an area or country with either widespread sustained transmission or sustained community transmission.

Patient/resident therapeutic passes are suspended.  Exceptions will be handled on a case by case basis.

Patient/resident movement outside of facilities will be limited except for necessary medical appointments.

Volunteers/volunteer groups will not be allowed.
