SCDMH’s Public Safety Division is a fully operational police department with statewide jurisdiction. It employs Class I Certified Officers and Security Officers, and also operates its own communication center, manned by dispatchers. The Division provides internal and external law enforcement and security for the Agency’s five inpatient facilities, and is also responsible for conducting investigations, participating in disaster response, transporting patients and clients, assisting employees, and supporting the Agency’s mental health centers.

The Division provides guidance for all applicants and candidates to ease any concerns related to employment with  Public Safety.
